A new cleaning trend is going viral and it involves something you already have in your laundry room: fabric softener.

When you vacuum, warm air blows through the filter and back into the room. That’s why older vacuums sometimes give off a dusty or “burnt” smell. Adding a small amount of fabric softener can completely change that. Here’s how it works: mix two tablespoons of liquid fabric softener with a bit of water, dip a cotton pad or small cloth into it, squeeze it out, and place it inside the dust bag or canister (not directly on the filter). As you vacuum, the air passes through the cloth and spreads a light, fresh scent through your home leaving every room smelling like clean laundry. It’s simple, affordable, and safe for any vacuum when done correctly.
